Has anyone ever heard of Jason Collins before today? I haven’t. Apparently he’s a center for the Washington Wizards. A scrub player, for a basement dwelling team. Oh and today Collins came out of the closet being the NBA’s first publicly known gay player. All I can say is good for you Jason Collins, then I take a big yawn. Who gives a damn? It’s not like Collins is an allstar. Dude barely averaged a full point per game this season. Jason Collins averaged a whopping 1.1 points per game between being with the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizard. A ball boy on any of those teams coming out of the closet would be more newsworthy than a scrub like Collins.
Everyone from the media to BJ Bill Clinton are absolutely giddy that Collins ‘came out of the closet.’ They fawned, I yawned. I guess BJ Bill Clinton is happy because there’s more women he could stalk since Jason Collins wouldn’t be fighting for them with BJ Clinton.
Even if Lebron James came out of the closet and admitted he was gay, who f*cking cares? I can care less what these overpaid, overpaid athletes do in their personal life.
“I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation,” Collins wrote. “I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”
He continues to explain that as a free agent – “literally and figuratively” — he is coming out because both he and coaches know he still has plenty to bring to the game, but at the same time he wants to be “genuine and authentic and truthful.”
Collins writes that he dated women, was once engaged and followed what he believed to be a model dictating he “live a certain way.”
It’s a good thing for Collins that he isn’t a gay conservative. The media wouldn’t be fawning over him right now, they’d be smearing him for being black and gay. The fact remains is that Jason Collins is a 34 year old NBA scrub. Maybe he figured by ‘coming out’ that he’d be able to land a new NBA contract this summer. Otherwise, I don’t think there is a lot of demand in the NBA for 34 year old centers who barely average 1 point per game.
