As of today at least 18 people have died in New York City amid an extended and historic cold snap that’s brought dangerously low temperatures, subzero wind chills, and conditions colder than parts of Antarctica in some spots. These deaths are primarily linked to exposure to the extreme cold, with many involving people found outdoors (often homeless or unsheltered individuals). Many New Yorkers don’t have electricity or heating during this cold snap, and this is exactly what they voted for.
The death toll from the NYC storm is 16.
