Trump has more votes than Romney and McCain through 4 elections

Something is going on in this country. You may like Donald Trump, or you may hate him. There doesn’t seem to much middle ground when it comes to The Donald. One thing is for sure, Donald Trump is getting people to the polls in the early primary and caucus states in record numbers. So far through Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada, Donald Trump has over 100,000 more votes than Mitt Romney did in 2012, and nearly 200,000 more votes than McCain did in 2008. So far, through four states, Trump has racked up about 420,000 from the four small states.

Mitt Romney in 2012 only had 311,000 votes and old songbird McCain only had about 250,000 votes or so.

All told, Trump has now won approximately 420,000 votes. After the first four states had voted in 2012, Mitt Romney had won about 311,000 votes. Back in 2008, meanwhile, eventual nominee John McCain had won a little more than 250,000 votes after Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada had voted.

Before the primaries got underway in earnest, many assumed that Trump would fare more poorly than his poll numbers indicated because so many of his supporters had rarely voted in the past. But with this election, the past has not been a reliable predictor of future events.

The only way to stop Trump at this point is to clean out the remaining trash (Ben Carson and John Kasich), and then decide which GOP backed candidate will be the one to face Trump one and one. Either Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio would be that candidate. But until the race is a head to head matchup against Trump, no one else in the GOP has a chance to beat Trump at this point.
