The Weekly Standard has named senior writer Stephen Hayes its next editor in chief. Bill Kristol, the magazine’s co-founder and current editor in chief will transition to a new role as editor at large.
Current deputy editor Richard Starr will become editor, and Fred Barnes will remain executive editor.
“After 21 years as editor, I’m very pleased to announce that I’m moving over to become editor at large and that my longtime colleagues Steve Hayes and Richard Starr have agreed to take on the responsibility for day-to-day management of the magazine,” Kristol said in a statement. “I’m thoroughly looking forward to the welcome opportunity to work on longer pieces while continuing to write weekly editorials and contribute to the website. With Steve and Richard at the helm, the magazine couldn’t be in better hands.”
Both Hayes and Kristol became big voices in the conservative movement who spoke out against President-elect Donald Trump during the campaign, and they often came under fire from Trump himself and his supporters.
The Weekly Standard used to be one of my mandatory daily reads. But after they, like National Review jumped the shark on their #NeverTrump crap, I had no more use for Weekly Standard. They have since devolved into basically a pro Evan McMullin propaganda trash site that secretly lobbied for Hillary Clinton to win.
