According to the U.S. Department of Justice, McIntire allegedly threw two Molotov cocktails at a Tesla Cybertruck during spring break, damaging two Cybertrucks (valued at $105,485 and $107,495) and two charging stations (valued at $550 each). He faces charges of unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and malicious damage by fire of property used in interstate commerce.
Investigators used surveillance footage, cell phone records, flight data, and social media activity to link McIntire to the crime. A distinctive wide-brimmed hat and an intact Molotov cocktail were recovered at the scene, with DNA evidence reportedly tying him to the incident. The attack is part of a wave of vandalism against Tesla properties, allegedly motivated by backlash against Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel have emphasized severe consequences for such acts, labeling them domestic terrorism. McIntire was arrested in Boston on April 18, 2025, and made an initial court appearance in Massachusetts, with the case based in the Western District of Missouri.
